What are Seamless Tubes?

Typically, seamless tubes are defined as cylindrical metal pipes manufactured without any welding or seams.  They are manufactured by extruding solid billets through a die to create a smooth, continuous structure. 1. Firstly, you need to select a solid steel billet of the ideal chemistry make-up and size.  It is necessary that you heat it uniformly in a furnace to forging temperature, which is hot, malleable but not molten 
2. The hot billet is pressed through the rolls and a pointed mandrel or piercer pushes into the center, thereby creating a hollow shell. This stage called Mannesmann process is conducted on a rotary piercing mill 
3. The process of elongation is conducted on the pierced shell and its inner diameter is refined by passing it over a stationary or moving mandrel/plug while rollers reduce wall thickness and increase length. Leading to production of a rough tube possessing closer-to-final ID/OD.
4.  For some alloys or sizes a hot extrusion press force is used to create the hollow tube in a single stroke  
5.  It is followed by the tube being rolled on specialized mills (e.g., seamless tube rolling mill) to reach nearer-to-final OD and wall thickness. Thereby enhancing roundness and mechanical properties.
6. Finally, heat treatment is used for enhancing  mechanical properties. Some tubes receive cold re-drawing or final sizing passes. 
7. Inspection and testing is conducted for the precision seamless tubes. This includes tests like dimensional checks, ultrasonic or eddy-current testing, hydrostatic or pneumatic pressure tests, hardness and metallurgical tests, and visual/NDT inspections
